Who Are TSZX?

Lina - Dana - Stephanie - Sunday

The Grace (Korean: 천상지희 더 그레이스; Chinese: 天上智喜 The Grace) is a South Korean a capella girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2005. It consists of four members that specialize in singing, dancing, and acting.

The Grace was known as TSZX before the promotion of their 3rd Korean single (My Everything) around the end of 2006, at which the group changed their name to The Grace to signal the change of the group's style to a more “graceful” one. TSZX is the romanization of the Mandarin Chinese pronunciation, Tiān Shàng Zhì Xǐ. In Japan, the group is still officially known as Tenjōchiki, which is also abbreviated (though less frequently) as TJCK.

[Classic] TSZX, “We are different from TVXQ”

Posted by Anonymous On Saturday, October 11, 2008

Loosely Translated and Paraphrased from Korean:
For the release of their debut single TSZX has turned “a burden into motivation”

“Being minutes away from our debut, a lot of people only see the negative. This is motivation for us to work harder.”

On January 29, even before the official debut, TSZX has been flooded by music fans with attention.

“Heavenly Wisdom and Happiness,” is the meaning behind TSZX. Cheon Mu Stephanie, Sang Mi Lina, Ji Sung Sunday and Hee Yol Dana compose Asia’s first a cappella female dance unit. However, comparison’s to SM’s other group TVXQ, as become a big topic.

“Heavenly Dancer” Cheon Mu Stephanie was picked up for winning the top prize at the SM Youth Competition in California, USA. “Heavenly Beauty” Lina was formally in the duo Isak n JiYeon in 2002.

“Soft Voice of Heaven” Sunday won top prize in the 2001 SM Youth competition and released her debut single in Japan last year. She is the only one to have experience in Japan and also had the opportunity to work with Japanese hip-hop unit M-Flo. “Happiness of Heaven” Dana has released two solo albums since 2001, and until last year was an active solo artist under SM.

In an interview with Star News TSZX addressed the rising interest in the group, “many people are watching for our debut, which lays a lot of pressure on us. However, our success will be determined by our efforts and activities. We look forward to working hard and giving the best performances we can.”

The “motivation” they have also causes more pressure. In addition, their motivation is equal to their desire and the pressure is in confidence. In addition, they addressed the comparisons to TVXQ, “We are different than TVXQ. We chose a pop ballad as our title song for that main reason. We want more focus put on the audio and four-unit harmony than the visual. We do not want to be just an idol group.”

The story of TSZX begins early in the summer. Sunday has already released two Japanese singles and had an album and a detailed list of activities release. Then Dana, who has released two solo albums, performed on the joint album “SM Town” with the other members. It was here that TSZX the group began to form.

Plans for the full-scale debut of TSZX began last year. Stephanie is the only member without previous experience, and was quickly put into training.

Sunday has tremendous power in her voice, while still keeping it soft. The bliss and clear voice of Dana guides the entire songs. Lina’s deep and mature voice only helps the song to get better. With an opera-singing mother, Stephanie’s unique voice comes out low and cool.

The debut song for TSZX is “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” an Elvis Presley cover.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” is an a cappella song, relying completely on the four girls voices. They sing in good harmony, while keeping each individual vocal identity. People who make assumptions and comparisons have changed perspectives after listening to the song, as evidenced by netizen comments on the website ilikepop.com.

“Too Good” has the energy of a pop song. The voices and harmonies of the four members over the sophisticated melodies and brilliant arrangement stimulate the ear.

The second track, “Boomerang,” has an urban feel. All three songs mixed together on the single give it a clean feel to the classic R&B genre.

“We are not afraid to be an a cappella pop group. South Korea has no other big female groups, and we would like to give meaning to the genre. With this single, we hope to have a successful debut. With the name TSZX, we want to reflect what we stand for. We hope to show more in the future.”
